Mikhail Gorbachev, paved the way for political and economic reforms in east central Europe. Gorbachev abandoned the "Brezhnev Doctrine"--the Soviet Union's policy of intervening with military force, if necessary, to preserve communist rule in the region. Instead, he encouraged the local communist leaders to seek new ways of gaining popular support for their rule.

The revolutions of communism in Europe. spread to the Soviet Union itself. Gorbachev was forced to cede power in Russia to Boris Yeltsin, who oversaw the dissolution of the Soviet Union.

East Germany’s 77-year-old party boss Erich Honecker dismissed reforms as unnecessary.

Hungary allowed vacationing East German tourists to cross the border into Austria. From which they could travel to West Germany. In October 1989, huge demonstrations had broken out in cities across East Germany. The protesters demanded the right to travel freely—and later demanded for free elections. Honecker tried to regain control by ordering the police to break up a demonstration in Leipzig. The police refused Honecker lost his authority and resigned on October 18. Egon Krenz, new German leader boldly gambled that he could restore stability by allowing people to leave East Germany.

The US and the USSR were competing against each other to get in to space first but. The Russians got the got their space shuttle there first then a man while. The Us were trying to break the sound barrier at first they failed the plans crashed and blew up. The Russians were beating the US in many ways they had German scientist to help get them into space. The US was getting annoyed by them and deiced to get the first man into space but the Russians did that to. The US were trying to pick the men to go into space they couldn't get there rockets to fly and though they didn't get the men into space first they got a chimpanzee there but in the end the US broke the sound barrier and got the first man to walk on the moon.

NATO & Warsaw

Nato was the alliance 12 nations in Europe and North America that protected one another from wars and other nations....

The Warsaw was the alliance of eight member countries of who the Warsaw Treaty pledged the mutual defense of any member who is attacked. The Warsaw Treaty’s had two organization the Political Consultative Committee handled civil matters, and the Unified Command of Pact Armed Forces controlled the assigned multi-national forces.

African Independence

Africa has had an employed system of forced labor. While draining wealth
from the colony, Belgium had provided no social services. It also had made no
attempt to prepare the people for independence.

Belgium’s granting of independence in 1960 to the

Congo (known as Zaire [zah•IHR] from 1965 to 1997) resulted in upheaval. prime minister Patrice

Lumumba a local leader named Moise Tshombe (MOHzee CHUHMbee) declared that region’s independence. Tshombe was backed by Belgian mining interests. Lumumba, with Communist connections, first appealed to the United Nations for help in putting down Tshombe’s rebellion. He then turned to

the Soviet Union for aid. At this point, a coup led by an army officer, Colonel Joseph

Mobutu, later known as Mobutu Sese Seko (moh•BOO•tooSAY•say SAY•koh), over-

threw Lumumba and turned him over to his enemy, Tshombe.

Lumumba was

murdered while in Tshombe’s custody. Tshombe himself ruled briefly until he was

overthrown by Mobutu, who seized power in a bloodless coup in 1965.

The labor camp
scene where he kissed the Jewish girl was powerful to me because he is a Nazi
another was when he gave extra water to the Jews on the train. in a why he gave them hope of living even though he know they were about to be killed.

The film Night and Fog was more powerful to me because it had more details and showed where they were killed and what the Jews did to try to escape.
The images where the Jews dead bodies were put on top of one another and how they moved the bodies and used their skin for paper they also cut off their hair and used it to make cloth.

The Treaty of Versailles

Took place after world war 1 It was signed on 28 June 1919,
it ended the war between Germany

in article 231-248 ( War Guilt clauses ) states that Germany takes full sole responsibility for starting the war

The German army was limited to a maximum of 100,000 men, and a ban placed upon the use of heavy artillery, gas, tanks and aircraft. The German navy was similarly restricted to shipping under 10,000 tons, with a ban on submarines.

he was determine to free his country from the British.
he uses nonviolence against the British.
he led a salt march thorough the Indian sea to protest the British Gov.

The British gov saw him as a threat

though through out his marches many where hurt and killed by the British
he was still determine to use nonviolence
but when some of the Indians where being beat the people fought back and this made Gandhi up set so he went on a fast he didn't eat until he was sure that violence stopped all threw out the Indian country
